Known issues on the 2023 Sportage. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first concerns the electronic controller for the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly; an electric oil pump assembly that overheats increases the risk of a vehicle fire. The second covers the alternator battery positive terminal nut, which may loosen and result in an engine stall or an electrical surge; an engine stall increases the risk of a crash, and an electrical surge increases the risk of a fire. The third concerns the side curtain air bags, which may have been twisted during installation, and a twisted air bag can deploy improperly, increasing the risk of injury. The fourth covers the instrument cluster display, which can go blank and fail to show critical information such as tire pressure. The fifth covers the roof molding, which may loosen and detach, and a detached roof molding can create a road hazard for other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash. The sixth concerns the brake booster diaphragm, which may become misaligned and cause an internal vacuum leak, and a loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop. Owners have filed 292 complaints for the year and Kia has issued 84 technical service bulletins. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
Whether you are tracing a blank cluster, checking the alternator terminal and brake booster, or servicing the hybrid and plug-in drive components, the manual keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2023 Sportage.
