Known issues on the 2016 A3 Quattro. Three recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the front passenger occupant classification sensor: the passenger occupant detection system can malfunction and switch off the passenger air bag even with the seat occupied, and a deactivated passenger air bag increases the risk of injury during a crash. The second covers the front passenger frontal air bag inflator module, which can explode during deployment and send sharp metal fragments into the cabin, or deploy improperly and fail to restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of serious injury or death. The third covers the gasoline fuel system: a suction jet pump seal inside the fuel tank can fail, letting fuel migrate into the evaporative emissions system and leak out of the charcoal canister, raising the risk of a fire near an ignition source.
