Known issues on the 2009 A3 Quattro. Five recalls are on federal record for this model year. Two separate campaigns cover the driver's frontal air bag inflator module, which can build excessive internal pressure and rupture or explode, sending metal fragments toward vehicle occupants during deployment. A third covers the ABS/traction control unit, which can fail during ABS or Electronic Stability Control activation and cause a loss of vehicle control. A fourth covers the automatic transmission, where insufficiently crimped wiring at a temperature sensor can cause a false high-temperature reading and an abrupt, unannounced shift to neutral. A fifth covers the fuel tank ventilation valve, whose internal spring may not hold closed under extreme driving conditions, allowing fuel to leak in the presence of an ignition source.
