Known issues on the 2008 A3 Quattro. Three recalls are on federal record for this model year, all tied to the driver's frontal air bag inflator or the fuel system. Two separate recalls cover the driver's frontal air bag inflator module: excessive internal pressure can cause the inflator to explode or rupture, sending metal fragments toward occupants and risking serious injury or death in a crash. A third recall covers the fuel tank ventilation valve, whose internal spring may not hold closed under extreme driving conditions, allowing fuel to leak and creating a fire risk in the presence of an ignition source.
