Known issues on the 2008 Cooper. The 2008 Cooper carries 5 recalls on the federal record. Certain 2008 Cooper convertibles built within a stated window could have a front passenger occupant mat that misreads the seat and leaves the passenger front air bag switched off. On certain hatchback and wagon versions sold or registered in certain states, corrosion from water and road salt could short the footwell control module and start a fire. Certain S versions had a hot tailpipe tip that stuck out beyond the bumper and was replaced with a shorter one.
