Known issues on the 2000 A8 Quattro. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the automatic transmission's shifter locking cable, which can move out of position over time and let the shifter be moved out of Park even without the ignition key inserted, allowing the vehicle to roll away without warning. The second covers the fuel filler pipe's blind cover, which may not seal properly and allow fuel vapor to escape, reducing fuel tank pressure and triggering the leak detection system's instrument panel warning light. Remedy
DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION LOCKING CABLE BY INSTALLING AN ADJUSTING PIECE THAT WILL SECURE THE LOCKING CABLE IN PLACE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A FUEL AND VAPOR LEAK DETECTION SYSTEM. A "BLIND COVER" AT THE FILLER NECK OF THE FUEL TANK MAY NOT SEAL PROPERLY ALLOWING FUEL VAPOR TO ESCAPE.
Consequence
SHOULD THIS HAPPEN, THE FUEL TANK PRESSURE WILL BE REDUCED, WHICH WILL ACTIVATE THE LEAK DETECTION SYSTEM AND ALERT THE DRIVER OF A SYSTEM'S FAULT INDICATED BY AN INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT.
Remedy
