1998 Isuzu N-Series Service and Repair Manual

The 1998 model year was the final season for the 3.9-liter 4BD2-TC turbodiesel in the Isuzu N-Series before the larger 4HE1 took over. NPR and Class 4 NPR HD cab-overs could also be ordered with a 5.7-liter V8 gasoline engine. Parts and specifications for this last 4BD2 year do not match the 1999 trucks, so this factory service and repair manual gives 1998-exact procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams, diagnostics and maintenance schedules, including steering column and gear work covered by that year's recall.

Known issues on the 1998 N-Series. One recall is on federal record: the intermediate steering shaft-to-steering gear bolt was not tightened properly at assembly, which can cause steering noise, loose steering and an off-center steering wheel, and could lead to loss of steering. NHTSA also logs two owner complaints, one about the engine and cooling and one about tires. The manual lists the steering shaft torque values and inspection steps.
