Known issues on the 1991 K3500. Three recalls sit on the federal record for this year, and all three end in a fire risk. Replacement fuel filters may not seal at the connection, so fuel can escape near a source of ignition. Replacement oil filters can seal badly and let the engine lose oil. And the automatic transmission can push fluid out of the vent tube when heat rises beyond what was anticipated. The single owner complaint logged with NHTSA falls under engine and engine cooling, covered here by the cooling system procedures and the engine diagnostics for all three units.

THIS CONDITION MAY CAUSE AN INADEQUATE SEAL AT THE CONNECTION, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO A FUEL LEAK. I
Remedy
HONEYWELL WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE FUEL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOB
UNANTICIPATED HEAT IN THE TRANSMISSION CAN FORCE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID OUT OF THE VENT TUBE.
Consequence
THE VENTED TRANSMISSION FLUID CAN CATCH FIRE IF EXPOSEDTO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.
Remedy
INSTALL A LONGER TRANSMISSION VENT HOSE ROUTED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF THE VEH
