Known issues on the 1991 K1500. The record for this year holds two recalls. The first involves replacement oil filters that can seal inadequately, letting engine oil escape and raising the risk of a fire. The second describes a transmission running hot enough to push fluid out through the vent tube, where it can ignite on contact with a hot surface. Three owner complaints are logged with NHTSA, one each on seat belts, steering and the structure. Transmission service and cooling, steering gear and linkage work, and belt anchorage torque values are documented in this manual.

Consequence
THIS CONDITION MAY CAUSE INADEQUATE SEALING AND LOSS OF ENGINE OIL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A FIRE.
Remedy
HONEYWELL WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED OIL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING NOVEMBER 20
UNANTICIPATED HEAT IN THE TRANSMISSION CAN FORCE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID OUT OF THE VENT TUBE.
Consequence
THE VENTED TRANSMISSION FLUID CAN CATCH FIRE IF EXPOSEDTO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.
Remedy
INSTALL A LONGER TRANSMISSION VENT HOSE ROUTED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF THE VEH
