This factory service and repair manual for the 1983 GMC K1500 lists three trims, Base, High Sierra and Sierra Classic, on a 2-door standard cab pickup, and four engines beneath them: 5.0L and 5.7L gasoline V8s, a 4.1L inline-six and the 6.2L diesel V8, every one overhead-valve and naturally aspirated. Known issues on the 1983 K1500. Nothing is recorded against this model year at the federal level, with no recalls and no owner complaints recorded by NHTSA. That puts the emphasis back on the working sections of the manual: engine mechanical, fuel and cooling procedures for all four engines, transmission and axle overhaul, steering and brake service with their torque values and adjustment specifications, and wiring diagrams with diagnostic charts for tracing an electrical fault to the component that caused it.

Consequence
THIS CONDITION MAY CAUSE INADEQUATE SEALING AND LOSS OF ENGINE OIL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A FIRE.
Remedy
HONEYWELL WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED OIL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING NOVEMBER 20
