Known issues on the 1989 E-150 Econoline. Two recalls are on federal record for this cargo van. One concerns the dual fuel tank selector valve, which could overfill one tank and push fuel past the filler cap, a leak that could ignite. The other concerns a snap ring locating the park gear on the transmission output shaft, which could fracture and leave the van free to roll when parked without the parking brake set. Owners have filed 33 complaints with NHTSA, led by the electrical system, then fuel, then engine and engine cooling, all systems this manual documents in depth.

UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, THE SNAP RING THAT LOCATES THE PARK GEAR ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANSMISSION MAY FRACTURE.
