Known issues on the 2021 Cayenne. Five recalls are on federal record for this model year. One covers the rear axle: the lock nut on the trailing arm can break from stress corrosion, and a broken lock nut may misalign the rear axle, causing a loss of control. A follow-up recall covers cars whose rear axle alignment was not inspected after that first repair was carried out, where misalignment may cause premature or uneven tire wear. A third covers the steering column, where the screw connection between the column and the steering box may fail and leave the steering column detached, again risking a loss of control. A fourth covers the seats: the passenger seat back heating element was not installed, which may impact calibration of the Occupant Classification System, so the front passenger air bag may fail to deploy. The fifth covers the rearview camera, whose image may not display when the vehicle is placed in reverse, reducing the driver's view behind the vehicle and failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111.
