Known issues on the 2017 X5. Six recalls are recorded against this year. The diesel's exhaust gas recirculation cooler appears twice, leaking internally so coolant and soot mix and smoldering particles can melt the intake manifold. A high-pressure fuel pump can fail and stall the engine, and a water pump connector that was not sealed can short when water reaches it. A passenger air bag inflator that cannot vent properly may rupture instead. Of 73 complaints, the electrical system leads with 10, then fuel and propulsion and the power train with eight each.
