Known issues on the 2006 X5. The federal record carries two recalls for this year. One concerns the sensing system that classifies the front passenger seat occupant: should it fail, the passenger air bag is switched off and stays off in a crash. The other covers a parking pawl guide plate that can leave the park lock unengaged, allowing a rollaway on a slope. Complaints run to 280 for the year and weigh heavily toward air bags at 124, then the service brakes at 38 and the electrical system at 35, which is restraint diagnostics, brake hydraulics and circuit tracing.
