Known issues on the 2008 X5. Ten recalls are on the record for this year. Most involve front air bag inflators that can burst as their propellant breaks down, driving fragments toward the occupants. Two are fuel-related: a poorly crimped pump connector that can melt and leak, and a six-cylinder fuel pump whose commutator wears until the pump quits and the engine stalls.
