Known issues on the 2010 X5. Fourteen recalls are on the federal record. Fire risk runs through several of them: an auxiliary water pump circuit board that can overheat, a crankcase ventilation valve heater that can short and melt, and a diesel fuel filter heater that can stay energized after shutdown. Others are mechanical, including camshaft timing housing bolts that can loosen and break into an engine stall, an idler pulley bolt that can fail and cost steering assist, and a windshield bonded insufficiently, weakening the roof in a rollover. Air bags lead 149 complaints with 36.
