Known issues on the 2007 X5. Eight recalls are on the federal record, and six concern front air bag inflators whose propellant can degrade with heat and humidity until the inflator bursts and throws metal fragments into the cabin. A seventh covers an in-tank fuel pump connector whose poorly crimped wires can melt the connector, leak fuel and stop the pump mid-drive. The eighth is a crankcase ventilation valve heater that can short and melt, a fire risk even when the truck is parked. Air bags lead 143 complaints with 47, ahead of the brakes at 21.
