Known issues on the 2012 Frontier. Three recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the main wire harness: a circuit breaker installed incorrectly can face the harness outward against a metal bolt on the A-pillar, wearing through the covering and creating an electrical short that could cause a fire. The second covers the engine oil cooler and oil filter mounting bolts, which on some trucks were made below specification strength and can break at the oil filter attachment point, leaking engine oil, dropping oil pressure, and risking a seized engine. The third covers the front wheel hubs on two-wheel-drive trucks, which can be manufactured below hardness specification and wear prematurely, eventually cracking and breaking. Owners have filed 78 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged.

Remedy
