One covered 130 vehicles: in certain 2009 Passat sedans and wagons, a damaged capacitor in the electromechanical steering gear's control unit could leave the driver's input unprocessed, though only on the first turn of the wheel just after start-up and at very low speed, and dealers replaced the steering gear. Certain other 2009 Passat vehicles could lose power to the fuel pump's control module, so the pump could quit and the engine stall. Owners logged 151 complaints, with the engine at 61 and fuel/propulsion at 49; 13 of them reported a fire, 5 a crash and 1 an injury.
