Known issues on the 2001 Passat. Regulators logged 3 recalls for the 2001 Passat. The fuel tank filler neck on certain 2001 Passat vehicles could be worn through if a flat rear tire was driven until it came apart, risking a fuel leak; dealers fitted a new wheel house liner. On certain 2001 Passat vehicles, sulfur deposits on the fuel level sending unit contacts could make the gauge read full over a nearly empty tank.
