Known issues on the 2006 Passat. NHTSA lists 7 recalls for the 2006 Passat, several involving the driver's air bag. On certain 2006 Passat sedan vehicles, the inflator propellant could degrade after long exposure to heat and humidity and explode on deployment. A separate rupture campaign for the driver's inflator on certain 2006 Passat vehicles covered 151767 vehicles. Certain 2006 Passat vehicles with the turbocharged engine could also suffer a brake booster vacuum line that could crack and come loose in cold weather, raising pedal effort. Air bags lead the 576 owner complaints at 148, followed by steering at 112 and the electrical system at 79; 21 reported a crash, 6 a fire and 7 an injury.
