Known issues on the 2009 S6. Three separate federal recalls touch this model year, and all three trace back to the same defect: the passenger frontal air bag inflator module. Degraded propellant inside the inflator can cause it to rupture or explode during deployment, throwing sharp metal fragments into the cabin and risking serious injury or death to the driver and other occupants. No complaints or technical service bulletins are logged for the year.
The repair procedures for that air bag system are included, alongside the OEM specifications for servicing the 5.2L V10.
