Known issues on the 2006 Beetle. NHTSA has filed 3 recall campaigns naming the 2006 Beetle. On certain 2006 Beetle vehicles with the inline-five engine, a clamp on a power steering hydraulic hose could sit out of position and rub against an underhood fuel supply line, risking a leak and, near an ignition source, a fire; dealers checked the clamp and replaced the line where needed. Certain cars also received a brake light switch that could fail if fitted incorrectly, leaving the lamps off or on. Owners lodged 125 complaints, 46 about the power train and 14 about the electrical system; 9 complaints reported an injury, 7 a crash and 1 a fire.
