Known issues on the 2000 Beetle. The 2000 Beetle carries 3 recalls on the federal record. Certain 2000 Beetle vehicles lacked the required markings and owner's-manual description for the rear-seat child seat anchorages, so owners were sent a manual supplement and guidance fixtures. The other two involved certain cars whose brake light switch could fail and leave the brake lamps off or stuck on, one limited to cars with cruise control where an earlier recall repair may have fitted the switch improperly. Owners submitted 303 complaints, headed by the electrical system (72), air bags (69) and engine and engine cooling (65); 26 complaints reported a fire, 12 an injury, 10 a crash and 3 a death.
