Known issues on the 2005 Beetle. Complaints about the 2005 Beetle total 261: the power train draws 116, then visibility at 60. Of those complaints, 11 reported a crash, 5 a fire and 4 an injury. There are 3 recalls. A heat-cracked solder joint in a frontal crash sensor could make the front air bags on certain 2005 Beetle vehicles with the dual-stage system inflate too forcefully in a minor frontal impact. Certain diesel cars had a fuel pump assembled with an incorrect fastener that could leak diesel, a fire risk. Certain cars also had a brake light switch that could malfunction if installed incorrectly, leaving the lamps off or on.
