Known issues on the 1999 Miata. Three recalls are on federal record for this model year. One covers the front underhood wiring on cars with the 1.8 liter engine: the length and routing of the injector harness allow it to contact the manifold at the EGR pipe, and a damaged harness can short circuit and blow the fuse for the fuel injector, which can result in the engine stalling. A second covers the fuel system at the filler pipe, where the non-return valve installed at the lower end of the fuel filler pipe can stick due to insufficient clearance between the valve case and the valve shutter combined with the material properties of the fuel hose between the filler pipe and the fuel tank; this can cause a hard to refuel condition, and in some instances, a fuel spit back during refueling. The third is an exterior lighting recall on replacement corner lamps, turn signals and headlights sold for use on this vehicle: some combination lamps that are not equipped with amber side reflectors fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, and without the amber reflectors the vehicle will be poorly illuminated, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash without warning.
