Known issues on the 1993 Miata. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first is filed under exterior lighting: certain PRO-A Motors corner lamps, turn signals and headlights sold as replacement lamps for these vehicles, some of them combination lamps that are not equipped with amber side reflectors and fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108. Without the amber reflectors the vehicle will be poorly illuminated, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash without warning. The second is logged without a specific component: a hardtop hoist accessory kit was sold to customers who have the Miata with a hardtop, and the plastic buckles used to adjust strap tension can break after the hardtop has been suspended by the hoist, so the hardtop can fall from the hoist and cause personal injury to anyone standing beneath or near it. Owners have filed 4 complaints for the year.
Both entries sit on bolt-on hardware rather than the drivetrain, replacement lamps on one and an accessory hardtop hoist on the other, so on a 1993 Miata the lighting circuit and the hardtop hardware are the two areas carrying a federal record behind them.

A HARDTOP HOIST ACCESSORY KIT WAS SOLD TO CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE THE MIATA WITH A HARDTOP. THE PLASTIC BUCKLES USED TO ADJUST STRAP TENSION CAN BREAK AFTER THE HARDTOP HAS BEEN SUSPENDED BY THE HOIST.
Consequence
THE BUCKLES ON THE HARDTOP HOIST CAN BREAK AND RESULT INTHE HARDTOP FALLING FROM THE HOIST, CAUSING
Remedy
MAZDA WILL REPLACE ALL HOISTS WITHOUT CHARGE.
