Known issues on the 1998 Corolla. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year, and both concern exterior lighting. Campaign 08E050000 covers 1,921 aftermarket headlamps from K2 Motor sold for use on this car and missing the amber side reflex reflector; without those reflectors, lighting visibility may be affected. Campaign 09E012000 covers 16,270 combination corner and bumper lamp assemblies of various part numbers sold by Sabersport as aftermarket equipment for various passenger vehicles, where decreased lighting visibility may result in a vehicle crash. Owners have submitted 278 complaints to NHTSA for this vehicle and Toyota has issued 48 technical service bulletins for it.
Because both campaigns cover lamps sold in the aftermarket rather than parts fitted on the assembly line, it is worth confirming which headlamp and corner lamp assemblies are actually on a given 1998 Corolla before diagnosing a lighting fault back through the wiring.
