Known issues on the 2009 Corolla. Eleven recalls are on federal record for this model year, and they fall into clear groups. Three cover the passenger-side frontal air bag inflator module, where an inflator rupture or explosion may result in metal fragments striking vehicle occupants. Two cover the accelerator pedal: in one the pedal may become hard to depress or slow to return to idle, and in the other a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop. Two cover the power window devices and controls, one where the switch overheats and may melt, possibly resulting in a fire, and one where the sliding electrical contacts are not protected by lubricant, letting debris and moisture get in. One covers the hydraulic service brakes' vacuum power assist: this could lead to an increase in vehicle stopping distance and a crash could occur. Two more are regional distributor recalls over tire and rim labeling under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, one where the label does not meet the standard requirements and one where a driver may overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash. The last covers the front seat heater, whose copper strand heating element may short circuit if damaged, increasing the risk of a fire. Owners have filed 1770 complaints for the year and Toyota has issued 170 technical service bulletins.
