1998 GMC Savana 2500 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1998 GMC Savana 2500 is aimed at the shop that keeps three-quarter-ton vans working: cargo bodies in standard and extended lengths, passenger bodies in the same two lengths, all on three doors, in Base or SLE trim. The engine list holds at four. The 4.3L V6 and the 5.0L and 5.7L V8s are naturally aspirated overhead-valve gasoline units, and above them sits the turbocharged 6.5L V8 diesel. Torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics follow each of them separately.

Known issues on the 1998 Savana 2500. Two recalls are recorded federally for the 1998 van. One again concerns aftermarket corner and bumper lamps missing their amber side reflectors, a visibility problem rather than a mechanical one. The more serious of the pair covers front brake rotor and hub assemblies cast from out-of-specification gray iron: a rotor can crack, and if the van keeps being driven, the cracks can spread around the wheel bolt circle until the wheel separates. Of the 33 owner complaints recorded, service brakes lead, followed by air bags and the electrical system, which puts the brake and hub sections first.
