1997 GMC C1500 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1997 GMC C1500 documents five trims, Sierra GT, Sierra SL, Sierra SLE, Sierra SLT and Sierra Special, across three cab configurations: the standard cab, the two-door extended cab and the three-door extended cab. Four engines are covered, the 4.3L V6, the 5.0L and 5.7L gasoline V8s and the turbocharged 6.5L diesel V8. Trim differences show up most in the electrical and interior content, which is why the wiring diagrams here matter as much as the mechanical sections do.

Known issues on the 1997 C1500. Four owner complaints are on the federal record for this model year: two on the service brakes and one each on the steering and the fuel system. That is a light complaint history for a full-size pickup, and it leaves the manual to do routine work, covering brake hydraulic and friction service, steering linkage and gear adjustment, and fuel delivery and pressure testing, each with the specifications, torque values and diagnostic steps needed to complete a job and then verify it.
