1988 GMC C1500 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1988 GMC C1500 arrives with the truck offered in two cab lengths, standard and extended, and three trims named Sierra, Sierra SLE and Sierra SLX. The engine bay could hold the 4.3L V6, the 5.0L or 5.7L gasoline V8, or the 6.2L diesel V8, all overhead-valve and naturally aspirated. Extended cab bodies bring their own sheet metal, glass and interior procedures, so body work is called out separately from the mechanical sections that both cabs share.

Known issues on the 1988 C1500. One recall stands against this model year. Heat building in the automatic transmission beyond what the design anticipated could push fluid out of the vent tube, and that fluid can catch fire if it reaches a source of ignition. Six owner complaints are logged with NHTSA, two of them about the service brakes and single entries covering the electrical system and the steering. Transmission cooling and fluid checks, brake hydraulic service and the steering and wiring diagnostics are therefore the sections of this manual most likely to earn their keep.
