IS CONSIDERING SPENDING HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO RAISE THE (CONCRETE) MEDIAN BARRIERS ON THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MILES OF THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY SYSTEM...DUE TO THE LARGE NUMBER OF FATALITIES CAUSED BY RAISED-UP PICKUP TRUCK AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLE ACCIDENTS WITH NORMAL PASSENGER CARS. I SUBMIT THAT PERHAPS IT IS TIME TO GO BACK TO THE LEGISLATION CONSIDERED TEN TO FIFTEEN YEARS AGO ORDERING MANUFACTURERS TO SET

DT; AT 35 MPH SOMEONE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF CONSUMER'S VEHICLE AND HIT OTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. SHE WAS TOLD BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT AIR BAGS WERE NOT GUARANTEED TO DEPLOY IN A CRASH. ALSO, SHE WAS TOLD NOT TO DEPEND ON THE AIR BAGS. THERE WERE 100 VARIABLES IN DEPLOYMENT OF AIR BAGS, AND THERE WAS NO WAY FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO TELL HER OVER THE PHONE WHEN AN AIR BAG WENT OFF. DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES, AND WAS TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL. HOWEVER, PASSENGER WAS LIGHTLY HURT AND DID NOT GO TO THE HOSPITAL.*AK *SB *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH IN WHICH THERE WAS FRONT END DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND, AS A RESULT, THERE WERE MINOR INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 16,000. CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE WAS NOT AVAILABLE IN DROP DOWN BOX.
