Known issues on the 1992 LeBaron. The 1992 LeBaron has two recalls on the federal record. On 17,000 of certain 1992 LeBaron vehicles, the hood latch may have been installed so the secondary catch could not engage; if the primary latch let go, the hood could fly up at speed and block the view ahead, and dealers adjusted the catch. On certain 1992 LeBaron sedans and convertibles, zinc plating made the upper steering column coupling bolt brittle enough to fracture and cost steering control; a phosphate-plated bolt went in instead. Owners filed 80 complaints, 20 on the power train; 10 reported a crash, 10 an injury and 6 a fire. The hood latch, the steering column and the transmission are addressed through procedures, specifications, torque values and diagnostics.
