Known issues on the 1989 LeBaron. The federal record holds two recalls for the 1989 LeBaron. On 41,000 of certain 1989 LeBaron vehicles, weak bonding could let corrosion work under the disc brake linings until they part from the shoes, lengthening stops; dealers replaced the affected linings. On certain others, the valve cover gasket could slip out of place and let oil seep onto hot parts, a fire risk, so a revised cover sealed with RTV was fitted. Owners filed 49 complaints, led by engine and engine cooling (15) and air bags (11); 10 reported a crash, 7 a fire, 7 an injury and 1 a death. Disc brakes and the valve cover joint both fall within the manual's procedures, specifications, torque values and diagnostics.
