1990 Ford Escort Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1990 Ford Escort documents five trims, Base, GT, LX, LX Sport and Pony, all of them powered by the 1.9-liter naturally aspirated SOHC inline-four. The two-door hatchback, four-door hatchback and four-door wagon bodies are covered. The book stays with that one powertrain and spends its space on the rest of the car: procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics for the driveline, chassis, brakes, glass, body and electrical system.

Known issues on the 1990 Escort. Two recalls are on federal record. The first is the ignition switch that could short internally and overheat in the steering column area. The second is a build problem: the bonding primer for the urethane adhesive was not applied to some windshields before installation, leaving the glass improperly adhered to the body. Owners have filed 130 complaints with NHTSA, with the electrical system well ahead of engine and cooling and seat belts. Ignition switch replacement, wiring diagnostics and glass removal and installation procedures are all documented.
SPECIAL PRIMER THAT PROMOTES THE BONDING OF A URETHANE ADHESIVE TO THE GLASS WAS NOT APPLIED TO THE WINDSHIELDS BEFORE INSTALLATION.
