1985 Ford Escort Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1985 Ford Escort covers four separate engines: the turbocharged 1.6-liter SOHC inline-four, the naturally aspirated 1.9-liter SOHC four, a 2.0-liter SOHC diesel and the naturally aspirated 1.6. Six trims are documented, Base, GL, GT, GT Turbo, L and LX, in two-door hatchback, four-door hatchback and four-door wagon form. Each engine carries its own specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics, since the turbocharged and diesel cars share little with the base four beyond the shell around them.

Known issues on the 1985 Escort. Three recalls stand on the federal record for the 1985 car. One covers oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold from cracks above the number three cylinder or from split rocker arm cover gaskets, with an underhood fire the consequence. Another concerns the forward outboard pedestal of the driver's seat track, which could fracture and let the seat rock under acceleration or braking. The third involves a throttle lever that could hang off idle because of a misaligned air conditioner cutoff switch. Thirty-one complaints are logged with NHTSA, led by the electrical system, engine and cooling, and seat belts. Throttle linkage, engine sealing and wiring diagnostics are all here.
THE FORWARD OUTBOARD PEDESTAL OF THE SEAT TRACK OF DRIVER'S SEAT MAY BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO FATIGUE FRACTURE.
THE THROTTLE LEVER MAY NOT RETURN TO IDLE POSITION DUE TO MISALIGNMENT OF THE AIR CONDITIONER SHUT OFF SWITCH TO THE THROTTLE LEVER PIN.
