1987 Ford Escort Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1987 Ford Escort works across a three-trim lineup, GL, GT and Pony, and two engines, the 1.9-liter naturally aspirated SOHC inline-four and the 2.0-liter SOHC diesel. Two-door hatchback, four-door wagon and four-door hatchback bodies are all in scope. The diesel's fuel and starting systems get their own coverage alongside the gasoline four, and procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics run system by system through the driveline, chassis, body and electrics.

Known issues on the 1987 Escort. Three recalls appear on the federal record. Lug nuts that could gall and seize on the wheel studs without clamping the wheel properly are the most consequential, since the studs could then fatigue and a wheel could come away. A second recall repeats the driver's seat track pedestal fracture, and a third the spring-lock fuel line coupling that may not be fully engaged. Owners have filed 66 complaints with NHTSA, concentrated in the electrical system and in engine and cooling. Wheel-end torque values, fuel line procedures and wiring diagnostics answer directly to that record.
THE FORWARD OUTBOARD PEDESTAL OF THE SEAT TRACK OF DRIVER'S SEAT MAY BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO FATIGUE FRACTURE.
