Known issues on the 1989 Pickup. Two recalls are on federal record for this truck. One covers the steering linkage relay rod on certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, where the steering wheel is repeatedly turned under conditions that require high steering effort and power assist; if the vehicle is continued to be operated in this condition, the relay rod may fracture. The other is an equipment recall on exterior lighting: K2 Motor recalled 1,921 aftermarket headlamps of various models sold for use on these vehicles because the headlamps are missing the amber side reflex reflector, and without the amber side reflex reflectors the lighting visibility may be affected. Owners have registered 30 complaints against the 1989 Pickup, and 7 technical service bulletins have been issued.
