Toyota built the 1987 Pickup in dozens of separate configurations, so fitment is the whole game on this truck. The engine bay is the constant — a 2.4L four in the 22R/22R-EC/22R-TEC family — while the cab, the transmission and the axle behind it are not: standard cab or Extra Cab, automatic, or one of the W46, W55, W56, R150, R151F and G52 codes that follow the trim name. The clearances, torque figures and adjustment sequences Toyota published split along those lines, so the number that is right for a W56 truck is not automatically the number for the R150 one parked next to it.

Known issues on the 1987 Pickup. One recall is on federal record for this model year, and it falls under exterior lighting. It covers certain Pro-A Motors corner lamps, turn signals and headlights sold as replacement lamps for use on certain passenger vehicles. Without the amber reflectors, the vehicle will be poorly illuminated. Owners have filed 9 complaints about the 1987 Pickup, and Toyota has issued 7 technical service bulletins for it.
That is the practical difference on an older truck like this one: tracing a lighting fault back through the wiring, or working on the driveline, goes faster when you are reading the figure Toyota wrote for your own build of the 1987 Pickup rather than one borrowed from a neighboring year.
