Known issues on the 1989 C3500. Three recalls are on the federal record. One covers replacement oil filters that may not seal, letting engine oil escape toward an ignition source. Another describes transmission fluid pushed out of the vent tube by unexpected heat, where it can catch fire. The third concerns incorrect instructions for adjusting the rear lap-shoulder belts, so a belt set as directed would not restrain an occupant properly. One owner complaint, on the electrical system, rounds out the record. Lubrication, transmission and restraint procedures, their torque values and the wiring diagrams are the sections in play.

Remedy
HONEYWELL WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED OIL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING NOVEMBER 20
TRUCKS CAN CONTAIN INCORRECT INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PROPERLY ADJUST REAR SEAT LAP-SHOULDER BELTS AS REQUIRED BY FMVSS 209.
Consequence
INCORRECTLY ADJUSTED SEAT BELT WOULD NOT PROPERLYRESTRAIN OCCUPANT IN AN ACCIDENT OF SUDDEN STOP; TR
Remedy
PROVIDE OWNER'S MANUAL INSERT CONTAINING THE CORRECT REAR LAP-SHOULDER BELT INSTRUCTIONS.
UNANTICIPATED HEAT IN THE TRANSMISSION CAN FORCE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID OUT OF THE VENT TUBE.
Consequence
THE VENTED TRANSMISSION FLUID CAN CATCH FIRE IF EXPOSEDTO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.
Remedy
INSTALL A LONGER TRANSMISSION VENT HOSE ROUTED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF THE VEH
