1989 GMC C2500 Service and Repair Manual

This factory service and repair manual for the 1989 GMC C2500 documents three bodies, the standard cab pickup, the extended cab pickup and the cab and chassis, across Sierra, Sierra SLE and Sierra SLX trim. Four engines are on the list: the 4.3L V6 of 262 cubic inches, the 5.0L V8, the 5.7L V8 and the 6.2L diesel V8, all overhead-valve and naturally aspirated. The cab and chassis version needs frame, mounting and body wiring information the pickups do not, and it is treated separately.

Known issues on the 1989 C2500. Three recalls are recorded for this model year. The first concerns replacement oil filters able to seal poorly and lose engine oil, raising a fire risk. The second describes transmission fluid driven out of the vent tube by unanticipated heat, which can catch fire near a source of ignition. The third is an instruction error covering adjustment of the rear lap-shoulder belts, leaving a belt that may not restrain an occupant properly. Nine owner complaints follow, four on engine and engine cooling, two on seat belts and one on the power train.
