This factory service and repair manual for the 1989 Chevrolet K1500 was written for Cheyenne, Scottsdale and Silverado trucks in either a two-door standard cab or a two-door extended cab. Four naturally aspirated overhead-valve engines share the space: the 262 cubic inch V6, the 305 and 350 cubic inch gasoline V8s and the 379 cubic inch diesel. Because a diesel and a gasoline engine want different fuel, cooling and diagnostic routines, those sections branch by displacement rather than running together as one general chapter.

Known issues on the 1989 K1500. Three recalls appear on the federal record for the 1989 truck. Two of them concern replacement filters sold for these engines: one can leave an inadequate seal at a fuel connection and let gasoline leak near a source of ignition, the other can lose its seal and drain engine oil, and fire is the consequence named in both. The third is a documentation fault, since trucks carried wrong instructions for adjusting the rear lap-shoulder belts, so a belt set by them would not hold an occupant in a crash or a sudden stop. The ten complaints on record fall on structure, seat belts and tires.
