1988 Chevrolet K1500 Service and Repair Manual

This factory service and repair manual for the 1988 Chevrolet K1500 has four engines to keep straight: a 4.3L overhead-valve V6 of 262 cubic inches, gasoline V8s of 305 and 350 cubic inches, and a 379 cubic inch diesel V8, every one naturally aspirated. Both cabs are two-door, one standard and one extended, and the truck was sold as a Cheyenne, a Scottsdale or a Silverado. Specifications and torque values are therefore stated per engine, and the body sections account for the shorter and the longer cab separately.

Known issues on the 1988 K1500. Two recalls stand on the federal record, and both trace to replacement service parts rather than to anything built into the truck. One covers a fuel filter that can seal poorly where it joins the line, letting gasoline escape and, with an ignition source nearby, burn. The other covers an oil filter that can seal just as badly and bleed away engine oil, again with fire as the stated risk.
