This factory service and repair manual for the 1987 Chevrolet P30 starts from a simple fact: one commercial chassis, four engine choices, two finished states. The inline-six of 292 cubic inches is the smallest, the 454 gasoline V8 the largest, with the 350 gasoline V8 and the 6.2L diesel between them. Bodies are the two-door van and the bare chassis; trims are Base Stripped and Step-Van Delivery. Every section — engine, driveline, chassis, body electrics — carries its own specifications, torque values and diagnostic procedures.

Known issues on the 1987 P30. Three recalls touch this model year. Two involve replacement filtration: oil filters that seal inadequately and let the engine lose its oil, and fuel filters that fail to seal at the connection and leak fuel where an ignition source can reach it. The third concerns seat pedestals with an oversized slot in the center channel, leaving the seat mounting short of its loading requirement. Owners have logged three complaints, two of them on the electrical system. Lubrication, fuel delivery and seat mounting torque all appear here with figures to check them against.
