2021 Land Rover Discovery Service and Repair Manual
The 2021 Land Rover Discovery was built in two powertrain configurations and four Sport Utility 4-Door trims, and which one is in front of you changes the job: the 3.0L L6 (VIN U) carries mild-hybrid hardware and depends on a DC-DC converter to charge its 12-volt system, while the 2.0L L4 (VIN X, AJ20P) is a conventional turbocharged gas four. The specifications and tightening sequences you work to are the ones Land Rover published for that exact build.

Known issues on the 2021 Discovery. Five recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the 12-volt battery: a loose contact between the battery ground stud and the chassis may result in various electrical faults, possibly causing a loss of electrical power or the vehicle to shut down while driving, and a vehicle that shuts down or loses exterior lighting while driving increases the risk of a crash. The second covers the front seat belt retractors, where the seat belt automatic locking retractors may deactivate early, which can prevent the child restraint system from securing properly; an unsecured child restraint system can increase the risk of injury during a crash. The third covers the DC-DC converter on the mild-hybrid propulsion system, which can fail due to an internal fault in the boost control microchip; that failure results in a loss of 12-volt system charging, and a loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash. The fourth covers the frontal air bags: the driver's air bag clockspring connector may corrode, which can cause the air bag not to deploy as intended, and an air bag that does not deploy as intended increases the risk of injury in a crash. The fifth covers the rearview camera, where water may not be able to drain away due to insufficient drain holes, which may result in damage to the rearview camera; a rearview camera image that does not display can decrease the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners have filed 11 complaints for this model year.
Whether the job is chasing a 12-volt charging fault on a mild-hybrid Discovery, inspecting a clockspring behind the steering wheel, or working out why the rear camera has gone dark, the procedure and the figure you follow are the factory ones for this 2021 Discovery.
