Every clearance, torque figure and diagnostic step in this 2016 Scion tC service and repair manual is tied to the car as it was actually built — the 2.5L four-cylinder (2AR-FE) and the transmission your car left the line with — so you are not working from a specification carried over from an adjacent model year that merely looks close.

Known issues on the 2016 tC. Three recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the hydraulic service brakes: the brake hoses in the TRD brake kits sold by Toyota as an optional accessory may fatigue and fail over time, and failure of a brake hose will reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash. The second covers vehicle labeling, where the Load Carrying Capacity Modification Label may not reflect the correct added weight of the installed accessories — an incorrect label may lead an owner to overload the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. The third is filed against tires for that same label defect on tC vehicles manufactured January 28, 2016, to March 14, 2016, since an incorrect label may result in the vehicle being overloaded and increase the risk of a crash. Owners have filed 6 complaints for the year and Scion has issued 9 technical service bulletins. The diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are laid out here.
Whether you are inspecting brake hoses, checking the load carrying capacity label after fitting accessories, or setting a transaxle specification, it keeps you on the OEM procedure for this particular 2016 tC.
