Known issues on the 2015 CX-9. Two recalls are recorded for the 2015 CX-9. One involves the front passenger air bag inflator in certain 2015 CX-9 vehicles: its propellant could break down with humidity and temperature swings, and the inflator could then explode in a deployment, sending metal fragments toward occupants. Owners were advised not to drive until it was replaced. The other covers certain 2015 CX-9 vehicles from a set production window, where the lower mounting nuts and bolts joining the front strut to the steering knuckle could loosen, letting the knuckle separate; dealers inspected them, replacing and correctly torquing any loose ones.
