Known issues on the 2008 CX-9. Five recalls name the 2008 CX-9. Certain 2008 CX-9 vehicles were recalled repeatedly over the passenger air bag inflator, whose propellant could degrade with heat and humidity, so the inflator might rupture and scatter fragments; owners were advised not to drive until it was replaced. One such recall was confined to vehicles sold or registered in certain states, another to vehicles already given a replacement inflator under a prior recall. A separate recall, for certain 2008 CX-9 vehicles from a defined build period, addressed front ball joints that could corrode and free the lower control arm.
