Known issues on the 2009 CX-9. Of the 6 recalls on the 2009 CX-9, several target the passenger air bag inflator in certain 2009 CX-9 vehicles, some restricted to vehicles sold or registered in certain states and one to vehicles given a replacement inflator by an earlier recall. The propellant could deteriorate with prolonged heat and humidity, so the inflator might burst and hurl fragments; owners were told not to drive until an alternate was installed. Another, for certain 2009 CX-9 vehicles from a specified production window, dealt with front ball joints that might corrode and free a lower control arm.
